Also when my supervisor gives me the wrong information and then I relay that to one of our people, and it ends up being wrong/misleading/she didn’t give me the whole story, and I end up looking stupid.

I.e. right now. We process funding requests, and one person didn’t send over enough info. Literally five minutes ago, my supervisor told me to email said person with a reference from a contract, asking again. And right after I sent the email she ran over to my office and said, no, no you didn’t need to do that.

…..WHY DID YOU TELL ME TO?

I swear to Jesus. There are some serious communication issues on her end. Half the time she brings up a file offhand and expects me to just know exactly what she’s talking about immediately. Like, no. We manage 26 entities, millions of dollars in funding, and hundreds of pages of paperwork for financials, labor docs, etc. And everything is a hard copy that I have to slough through every time you have a question.

There is no efficiency here and I am so frustrated. I’m starting to cop an attitude with her once in awhile and I’m getting defensive because I know what she asked. But I can do that and I don’t want to create problems here. I like my job, I just am having a problem working with her and her lack of communication.

Other times she’ll just throw something on my desk with half a sentence, expecting me to understand exactly what she wants from that. I’m the type of person who needs an explanation, and then I can do it perfectly. But if you half ass your expectations or don’t tell me exactly what you need done, I can guarantee it’s going to be a shit job, going to get fucked up, and basically be a waste of everyone’s time.

It’s really frustrating working with older people who don’t fully comprehend technology....

It’s really frustrating working with older people who don’t fully comprehend technology. Like, why are you emailing me a document and then printing it up, walking it to my office to hand it to me, and then rehashing your email to me face to face? I can read your email. I printed the document myself.

Or other times, they will print things off so I can read them. Like, it’s okay. I can read it on my screen. So much paper wasted for no reason, and so much paper everywhere cluttering up my desk.

Please leave the Tumblr staff in place. Say what you will about David Karp and crew — they built this thing from the ground up, Tumblr Hiccups, Tumblarity, stupid GIF ads and all. Despite all the tragicomic (mostly comic) melodramedies (see what I did there?) over a variety of silly things like Missing E and cancelling Storyboard, they’ve done a good job on the whole.
Please leave Tumblr alone. You acquired it for the cool factor, amirite? (If you say you acquired it for the hipster factor, I will take all your reblogs away.) Don’t tinker with it; don’t change it; don’t fuck with it. Leave it alone. Let David and staff do what they do best: continue to help foster an online community where lots of people give a shit about what lots of other people are blogging about. Let them engage one another with Yahoo! futzing around with trying to “monetize eyeballs” or whatever the fuck it is Wall Street wants you to do. Let Tumblr live; let it flourish. Google’s homepage has looked almost exactly the same since it launched, and look where they are now! (Ed. note — No, dumbass, they offer Gmail and Google Docs and Hangouts and Google Glasses and — dumbass, it’ not just the homepage!)
Ask us. If you must experiment with Tumblr’s tried-and-true formula, don’t leave out the most important focus group: us. The 100 million + bloggers who are here, using the platform every. Damned. Day. We pretty much know what works and what doesn’t. We’re pretty vocal and outspoken, too, when it comes to stuff we don’t like and do like.

I left livejournal when it started monetizing based on it’s users. If this happens with Tumblr I am OUT. I’ve had my tumblr blog for 4 years but I will abandon ship if this shit starts happening again.
